As we begin to reopen the boathouse, coaches monitoring safety are one way to ensure we all get into habits that will keep us and others safe and healthy. Please review the Procedures for Rowing at LOCR document first. This document supplements that information for those serving as safety monitors and allows members to review our new policies.
Opening the boathouse:
- Take temperature before leaving home
- Wash hands
- Unlock and open the boathouse doors
- Mix up two bottles of dilute bleach solution if needed

- Review iCrew for Covid-19 screening forms
- Prep the safety launch and walk it around the dock.
- Start the launch and let it idle for 2-3 min before turning it off
- The launch should always be ready to go before any boats leave the dock
- Launches will have;
- Ladder
- Megaphone
- Kippy-Little Bag
- Paddle

During rowing session (when rowers arrive):
Covid Safety
- When rowers arrive they will need to wait at the dock elbow
- Take the temperature and confirm they have answered "no" to all the covid screening questions on iCrew
- Check them in on iCrew
- Confirm assigned boats and oars with athletes and ensure safety protocols are followed while launching
- Make sure rowers use only the club equipment assigned to them!
- You will be in charge of launching the waves of people safely and efficiently
- When groups start returning you will be in charge of landing crews and cleaning equipment with bleach
- Glove up to return boats to the racks after they are rinsed
On the water - Observe launching and landing rowers as this is a choke point
- The launching are is also the most dangerous.
- Rowers should not stop backing until around the dock corner
- Coordinate with other coaches on the dock with radios/phones to track crews coming out and in
- Work with other coaches with regards to prevailing conditions and any adjustments of rowing for the day
- Take video of athletes on water
- Provide emergency assistance to anyone in need (equipment issues will need to be handled on the dock)
- Wear a mask during any interaction on the water
- Spray the on/off handle for the hose with the bleach spray. Spray the 2-3 feet of the hose closest to the open end with bleach solution.
- Close the bay doors. Wipe off the door handles with a wipe.
- Wipe off the spray bottles and store them for next day.
- Take a wipe with you when you leave the boathouse: wipe off the door handle on exiting.
- Use the wipe to clean the lock and gate when you close the gate
In case of emergencies
- It will be important you are familiar with the safety protocols before you have to deal with these sitruations
- If you flip,
- Try to get back in if you know how and are able
- Swim the boat to a safe shore and get back in if you are near a suitable shore
- Climb into the coaching launch using the ladder as a last option
- Try to get back in if you know how and are able
- If weather turn bad
- Coaches will use the megaphones to corral crews on the water - listen for the siren blast
- landing will not involve cleaning in these cases to facilitate getting boats off the water and people off the dock as soon as possible
In Case of covid-19 case at boathouse
- We will be carefully tracking who is coming down and when as well as what equipment each person is using
- In the case of a confirmed case
- Everyone who overlapped on the same day or used the same equipment would be notified right away
- The club would follow the OHA recommendations and contact the local public health authorities
- The club would suspend programs for 24 hours to disinfect all boats, oars and commonly touched surfaces
- Anyone in direct contact with the equipment and the day will be asked to stay home for 10 days

FACILITY OPERATING REQUIREMENTS
Phase 1
- State, local or school district guidelines for cloth face coverings should be strictly followed. Cloth face coverings should be considered acceptable
