MIDDLE SCHOOL ROWING
Our middle school rowing program is a unique sporting experience, and the objective is to develop a lifetime love of rowing by focusing on the key foundations of the sport. Participants will learn the basics of the rowing stroke, safe navigation, and correct use of equipment. On the water, the focus is on sculling (rowing with two oars), and rowers will learn first in wide, stable training singles, and progress to narrower singles and team boats (when allowed following covid-19 protocols) as their skills and confidence develop. Off the water, participants engage in structured physical exercise and guided active games with the focus to safely develop cardiovascular, flexibility and muscular fitness.
Eligibility: Any youth in 7th - 8th grade in Spring 2021. Arrival time is flexible to accommodate late arrivals. There is no daily attendance requirement, however attendance is mandatory on the first 2 days for an in-depth orientation to the boathouse, equipment, and safety.
