Program Descriptions

Classes are held at the Charlie Brown Water Sport Center boathouse at 350 Foothills Road, Lake Oswego, OR 97034.

When weather conditions prohibit us from being on the water (and during winter training, from around November until March) classes will move inside to our row studio at the clubhouse at 255 Foothills Road, Lake Oswego, OR 97034.

Where do we practice?

What do I need to do before my first practice?

An active US Rowing membership, yearly signed participation waiver, float test, and medical information form are required prior to the first day of class. See detailed instructions here. No personal equipment required!

Classes will consist of both sweeping and sculling single and team boats with both sweeping and sculling. When we move indoors for weather, athletes will train on Concept2 ergs (rowing machines) and free weights.

What are practices like?

A minimum two-hour volunteer commitment to the club (or $50 donation) is required per class. Regatta fees are not included in membership dues and will be billed separately.

Anything else I need to know?

Why get up before the sun, sometimes in the cold and rain, to work out on the river?

Rowing is a team sport, where you work together with up to eight other rowers to glide in perfect rhythm across the water. It’s also an individual sport, where each stroke you take is an exercise in mental and physical strength and discipline.

Rowing combines the collaboaration and accomplishment of team sports with the beautiful PNW outdoors—stunning sunrises, abundant wildlife, and views of the city of bridges and roses.

What’s so great about rowing?

Competitive rowing is an undertaking of extraordinary beauty preceded by brutal punishment.
— Daniel James Brown, The Boys in the Boat

Masters (Adult Rowing)

What is Masters rowing?

The Masters program is for rowers 21 years and older who have successfully graduated from a Learn-to-Row class or who have prior sweep and sculling experience.

We practice year-round and are usually on the water from March to November. In winter, we train at our clubhouse on Concept2 ergs.

Practices are held Mon., Wed., & Fri.. Participants can choose between the 5:30–7 a.m. or 7:30–9 a.m. session.

Learn-to-Row

Learn-to-Row classes are for adult athletes who have no rowing experience or those returning to the sport who want a refresher course. All you need is a desire to learn and have fun!

Who are Learn-to-Row classes for?

You’ll learn rowing basics first on a Concept2 erg (rowing machine) and then on the water. Our classes emphasize technique, safety, and fitness. While our classes focus on sculling, depending on class size you may have opportunities to learn sweep rowing as well.

What will I learn in a Learn-to-Row class?

When are classes?

That depends which session you sign up for, but classes are typically two days a week with various morning options. Check out our current class offerings.
